Title: One Way Room
Date: 11 January 2000

I was with my wife in a below ground subway station. We were looking for a change room, since we needed to get changed into bathing suits. We searched for a while and then found an entrance to a change room, that was clearly labeled "One Way". We didn't really think much of it and went through the turnstile. We entered the change room through a fairly lengthy hallway, and once inside we discovered that it was HUGE, with LOTS and LOTS of people in it. Some people were changing [young women... with my brain you've got to expect that], but most people were sitting around, playing cards and drinking out of plastic cups. We searched around for a free bench and locker, but couldn't find anywhere suitable to change.

In the middle of the room was a wooden bench-style picnic table, with a single man sitting there. Susan and I went over to the table and sat down; at that point I recognized the man to be Jesse Reklaw, and so I introduced Susan to him adding that "he's the guy who draws my dreams". Jesse's hair was messy and he had a short beard growing. He explained to us that the entrance really was one way, and that there were hundreds of people in this change room. Some had been there for years. There was no way out. He was also drinking something out of a plastic cup. We got up and went towards the entrance that we came in, but sure enough it was gone. We searched for other ways out and found an exit door at one end of the room. It led up a stairway to a large, square outdoor platform, with ~4 ft. walls around the sides. It felt like it was floating. It was dark out. All around the edge of the platform, on the outside of the walls, were big, bright spotlights and they were aimed so that if you attempted to look over the edge, you were blinded by them. We went back inside.

Inside we figured that the only way out was off that platform, so I had the idea of throwing stuff off and listening for it to land so that we could judge the how high the platform was off the ground. The only things we could find to chuck off the platform were plastic cups, and people were very reluctant to give them up. When we went back to the platform and threw them off, we could not hear them land.

No one had ever tried jumping off the platform, everyone was too scared.
